I met up with an old friend, Capt Jack, this morning for some surf fishing at Talbot Island. Brr it was cold. I hadn't fished with Jack in some time and the weather forecast wasn't good for taking my boat out. As we reached the end of the boardwalk Jack said it wasn't going to be a very good day. When I asked him why he was jinxing the day before we set up he said the water was dirty and flat. "The whiting bite is better with clearer water". Jack ought to know.
The fishing was real slow starting off with a few whiting too small to keep. Though the numbers didn't improve the quality of the fish did, with a couple of whiting to 17-18 inches. Jack left around noon and I stayed and caught a couple more before calling it quits. Total take home tally for the day was 8 whiting.
Here's a couple of pics to give an idea of the cloud cover, etc.
