I'll be heading out early in the cold morning to do some bottom bumping. Wish me luck. I'll use the same subject to add my report.

Luck! Luck! Luck!

As I understand it: Freeze warning remains in effect from 2 am to 8 am EST Saturday.

Another freeze event is expected tonight with minimum temperatures bottoming out in the upper 20s range inland and in the 30 to 35 degree range along the coast and St Johns River basin. Durations of 2 to 6 hours below freezing expected inland and 2 hours or less along the coast. Widespread frost is expected as well.

Have you warmed up yet?

Well, it's after 10pm, and I finally made it home. It was so nice, we decided to stay out later. It was sooo flat out there today, then it even turned glassy this evening. The rides out this morning, and in this evening were cold. We were able to stay dry the whole day, until we made it back in the jetties, and got pounded by some pilot boat waves. Man, you could surf those things!!
It was the busiest I've seen Mayport this evening. We passed a ship heading in from offshore, then a Carnival cruise ship, then another ship heading out at the mouth of the jetties, then a car carrier heading out, then another ship heading out at the big bend.
We did some traveling today to try and find the fish. We tried 4 spots in the morning trying to find live bait, only to find a little. The first fishing spot we went to, we found a couple keeper red snapper, and one short. I did have what I think was a big red snapper come unbuttoned half way up to the boat. The second spot served up mostly bsb, porgies, and trigger fish. The third spot on the way back produced a couple legal red snaps, and the first encounter for me with a Mola Mola.(Sun fish) I snapped a couple pics, but I don't think they'll turn out good with the glare on the water. We also caught a couple young sharks, one of which was followed up by about a 8' or 9' tiger shark. No pic of it..It was a holly ****** moment. The fourth spot produced a few more red snapper and some vermillion. Not sure about the tally for the other fish yet, but I remember we had 7 keeper red snaps..3 short of our limit for 5 people. Not a single grouper for the day.

It was late when we got back to sisters creek ramp, and when we were pulling the boat out, I heard something in the bushes..A man stepped out of the bushes, and it was Mr. Officer waiting around to check us. No problem, but pretty sneaky.lol We put in at 5:45am, and pulled out a little after 9pm.
I have to help my sister move tomorrow, then I hope to get the boat cleaned up and take some pics of the catch. They're on ice for now. Off to the shower..Nite!!

Good report. Did you keep any of the porgies or triggers or were they too small?

The Mola Mola pic didn't turn out too well.

I won't be out this weekend. I go back to work Thursday, and will be on call and working this weekend.

The truck is a '09 silverado 1500 z-71 4x4 crew cab with the 5.3L motor. Not the biggest or a diesel, but will be sufficient.
