After fishing Peters Point on Tuesday afternoon while at the beach with the family and getting a couple of whiting, I got up Thursday morning and headed down to south Amelia Island around 7am. Wow, what a beautiful day, and I had the beach all to myself. The lady fish and sharks were out in full force. I was really hoping to get into some trout or at least whiting, but they were out numbered. I did have bent rods for a couple of hours on just about every cast, but nothing I was targeting. Needless to say I was having a good time reeling in fish. 19 sharks all bonnet head and one odd ball black tip (I think) that provided a jumping show. Maybe a spinner? Several of the bonnet heads were good size with one measuring almost 36 inches. Never caught a bonnet head that big. 10 lady fish one whiting and one short fat trout. 31 fish to yield one trout. HA! What a workout. Either way I still had a good time. Around 11:30 I called the wife and asked if she and my daughter wanted to meet at Peters Point for a day at the beach and met up with them. My daughter and I noticed two schools of rays swimming by us while body surfing. I estimated 8 or 9 in one school. Anyway, while there we caught another bonnet head. I wanted to get a picture of that one cause it looked to be the biggest of the day, but when I reached for the leader the line popped. Oh well. There was someone else fishing who had caught 3 pompano. I would have loved to get into some pomps. Has anyone ever tried the artificial sand fleas by Gulp? Just curious. I picked some up just before the Boaters World in Yulee closed. I should have tried them that day but had forgotten I had bought them and weren't in my tackle box. I'll need to try them next time.

Well Mark, at least you streched some line. And those Ladyfish are some fun on light tackle. They also make ****** good cut bait, slime and all! I haven't been fishing since last Oct when I caught limits of 16 inch black drum in St Augustine. They are some mighty-fine eating! My long-time good friend and guide in St Augustine, Jimmy Blount, is having a morphine pump implanted on Jun 17th which hopefully will fix his back pain problem and he can return to fishing. If it all works out, I'll be back on the water with him before too long.

Lots of action at least. I tried the river around Green Cove first of the week but it was s l o w! Just junk fish, think we ahve had way too much rain for around here, heard it was real fresh even downtown Jak. Maybe in a week or so it will pick up here some. Going to hit the bass lake tomorrow and try to catch some shinner and see if we can roll some big fish over.

Hi Jim, long time. Yeah I got to stretch some line. It was a good time to say the least. I didn't fish last week cause I was busy working the Fernandina king fish tournament Thur thru Sat. I hope all is well with Jimmy Blount. My back has been doing well lately. Folks who haven't experienced back pain just can't relate to how badly it affects daily routine.
